Charles Bukowski suffered of a severe condition of acne vulgaris. The boils erupted on every surface of his body. He metaforically referred to the boils as "withheld screams". When I started this piece in 1997 I had no idea of the title I could put on it. Now I know, after reading many of the works of this unique writer.
